Travel With Shazza
As part of Ravel, I was tasked with planning and scripting episodic advertisements to promote Krome’s upcoming game release on Nintendo Switch. The videos promoted Ty the Tasmanian Tiger, a beloved Australian franchise reminiscent of Crash Bandicoot and Banjo – Kazooie.
The franchise currently has four games, with returning characters, creative villains, and countless Australian-inspired settings to explore. Part of my job was to take a deep dive into the lore of Ty the Tasmanian Tiger and develop short stories that encapsulated fan-favourite moments in the game.
I pitched a few ideas for this concept, and in time we would choose Shazza, a wise-cracking dingo gal, as the protagonist. Each of the ads featured Shazza speaking to the audience as if she was a video content creator, sharing her many adventures with her friends in the Ty universe.
There were two parts to each video: Shazza’s character dialogue, which was sure to be filled with Aussie slang and quickfire commentary. And the background plot, which would often be carried out by Ty himself. Conveying comedy and storytelling through background elements was a challenge in itself, but one I enjoyed wholeheartedly!
Not only was this campaign a delight to write for, I’m thrilled to say it was a rousing success amongst Ty fans. After the initial pilot success, Krome commissioned several more videos featuring the second and third games.
I was also given a chance to develop a promotional campaign for the third game’s release on the Nintendo Switch. All in all, Krome was a wonderful client to work with and I look forward to the future of Ty the Tasmanian Tiger!
